Malaysia is composed of two parts. Peninsular Malaysia is a long portion of land which extends from the border of Thailand to Singapore. The northern part is mostly covered by dense jungle, while the central part is lightly populated. The western part is a fertile plain extending down to the sea.
East Malaysia, the other part of the country, is adjacent to the southern part of Indonesian state of Kelatan. It is divided between Sarawak and Sabah, with the country of Brunei between them.

Kuala Lumpur (or KL as it is affectionately known) is a spectacularly modern and dynamic city, which still somehow manages to maintain its traditional charm. A superb monorail system and fabulous shopping complexes exist happily side by side with bustling food stalls, street markets and beautiful mosques and temples.
Cosmopolitan KL is a fascinating blend of many different cultures, primarily Malay, Chinese and Indian, and is fast gaining a reputation as the premier shopping destination in South East Asia.
It is served by a very modern airport linked by the KLIA express train to the centre of town.
Weather
Malaysia is a tropical paradise situated 7 degrees north of the Equator. The climate is warm and humid throughout the year with cooler temperatures in the hill resorts. Temperatures range from 21 degrees Centigrade to 32 degrees Centigrade. Average annual rainfall varies from 2,000 mm - 2, 500 mm and humidity is high all year round.
Currency
The unit of currency is the Malaysian Ringgit indicated as (RM), referred to informally as 'dollars'. Licenced money changers generally give an excellent exchange rate.
